Corning of the Beef Part 3: Pastrami

So we started with Corning the Beef.   Then we moved on to using that corned beef in Corned Beef and Cabbage (not so successfully, I should add)  And now it's time for Pastrami!

Pastrami is, basically, corned beef, rubbed with spices, smoked, then thinly sliced.  I do have to say that I liked our pastrami better than the stores - which, considering how the corned beef and cabbage came out, is a real plus!

Corning of the Beef Part 2: Corned Beef & Cabbage

Remember the Corning of the Beef about two weeks ago?  We used some excellent corning spices and a cut of beef brisket and made some Corned Beef.  It had to 'brine' for 10 days before cooking.

This last weekend found us making corned beef and cabbage and pastrami from our self-corned Corned Beef.  Let's just say, I don't think we'll probably try brining our own beef again.  Some things are best purchased and not homemade.  Corned Beef is in that category - at least for us.

Menu Monday: What's for Breakfast?

I noticed the other day that it had been quite awhile since I shared any breakfast recipes with you.  Generally, my breakfast includes a vegetarian sausage link (no, I'm not actually a vegetarian, reread Friday's blog, but I do like these little sausages. . . and I'm getting my veggies in:-)  sort of), one cup of multi-grain Cheerios, and one cup of milk.

But, on the weekend, or any day that Hubster has off from work, we have a 'Real Breakfast.'  We'll make anything from scrambled eggs, to french toast, breakfast burritos or strombolis to. . . .

Blog, I Mean Blob, by Kris

Yup.  I said 'blob.'  I seriously mean 'blob.'  That's what my friend, Kris, otherwise known as Queen of Randomness, calls her stream of conciousness missives that she shares with a select few. . . with some persuasion, I convinced her to share one of her blobs with you too!

These Blobs always make me think, make me smile, and encourage conversation about some detail she has so aptly plucked out of daily life and made it a focal point to be, well, focused on.  She has a unique take on life in the South which comes from actually living the first 20 (or so - we won't discuss precise numbers. . . ) of her life in the Midwest.

This is one made me laugh out loud - ENJOY!

Corning of The Beef - Part 1

Look at those good dogs sitting so nice.  Hmmm. . . Wonder what has their attention?  It seems as though Zayda and Jaz are getting some special treats.  Way to go Hubster!

What is it, though?  Looks a bit like some beef-trimmings, you say?  You are absolutely correct!  Bet you're wondering what we've been cooking now, right?  Well. . . glad you asked!
