Bring on the Eggnog!!!

I LOVE eggnog season:-)

It's official start each year comes from seeing the first carton of it in the dairy cooler.  Doesn't matter what brand, any ol' brand will do for that first one. . .

I do become more discriminate after that.  But, honestly, why *buy* eggnog when you could make your own?  Hmmmm. . .

After cruising my recipes in the blog and my files - I realized I didn't even have an eggnog recipe.  How did THAT happen?? So, yes, the research began!

I found complicated (10 ingredients, separating of eggs, stove top, grating. . . ) and I found simple (4 ingredients, dump and mix) and everything in between. . . Hmmmmm....  Even learned about a drink 'base' for a Tom & Jerry (kind of spiked egg nogg-y like.  Definitely saved that one for another time)

So, okay, I also want to say - eggnog has eggs. . .

some recipes have you cook them at some point during the recipe, and others do not.  I tried both and as I don't fear raw eggs *too much* I also am not planning on drinking large quantities of the recipe with raw eggs.

And one last thing. . . traditionally, Holiday Eggnog includes alcohol such as brandy, bourbon, rum, sherry, vodka. . . .

even though it was included in many of the recipes I found, and even the ones I tried, my focus was NOT on the alcohol, so I skipped it.

So, now that that's out of the way -   let's see how this goes.

After some hit and missing -  I came up with a quick and easy single-serve recipe - I'll work on another for a larger batch next. . .

Robin's Eggnog for One

1 egg
2 tsp sugar (I preferred raw, turbinado sugar)
1/4 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp rum extract (optional)
3/4 cup milk
grated nutmeg

Beat egg

until well blended.

Add milk and sugar

and extracts

and beat until smooth and frothy.  Pour into a glass and top with a sprinkling of nutmeg.  I added a cinnamon stick for stirring and garnish. . .

let 'rest' for 5-10 minutes and. . . Enjoy!

You can substitute heavy cream or half & half for any (or all) of the 3/4 cup of milk.  Also, you can substitute a shot or two of your favorite alcohol instead of the rum extract.  And feel free to adjust the sugar and vanilla to taste. It's all quite tasty!  And quick! And easy!  I LOVE that!!!!

Now that I can make my own eggnog how about making some of my. . .Holiday Snickerdoodles

Eggnog Cheesecake

Eggnog Mini-loaves?

Tis the season for eggnog and I LOVE it!  Now that I have recipe for the special concoction, I can make it year 'round. . . But I don't think I will.  I think I'll save it as a special beverage for a very special time of year.

Have an Egg Nog kind of day ~
